Pavla Beier, Assistant Artistic Director at Theatre Company Blah, Blah, Blah outlines a recent international collaboration between her Company which is based in Leeds, UK and Theatrehaus Ensemble in Frankfurt, Germany.
“I thought you might be interested in reading one of the German newspaper reviews of our recent collaboration with the Theaterhaus Ensemble in Frankfurt.
This is the only review of the three which has been translated into English, but it reflects the very positive tone of all of them.
Over the past twelve months we have been collaborating with the Theaterhaus Ensemble to devise a bi-lingual participatory show for high school pupils about WWII, entitled Messerschmitt Vs Spitfire – A Love Story. In January Anthony (Haddon) and I spent four weeks in Frankfurt rehearsing and refining the piece along with the Germans. The ensemble of four German actors and myself performed the piece to German high school students for a week and then brought the show (and our WWII bomb) to the UK where we spent an intensive week working with students learning German from GCSE to University level.
The cherry on the top of our very successful mini-tour is that we go back to Frankfurt next week to perform the piece one last time at the Starke Stuecke Children and Young People’s Theatre Festival. The Theaterhaus Ensemble plan to do a full-scale tour of the production this Autumn in Germany.
It has been a very exciting collaboration but we’re ready for a bit of calm in our new office now!
