ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF NATD
Saturday 15th October 2016
Warwick Arts Centre
Dear NATD Member,
Unfortunately, 2015 saw a hiatus for NATD’s national conference. Now, 2016 see its return. At a time when the nation’s political leaders can hardly decide on the direction the country will take over the coming months and years, NATD and its members must stand firm and united in the fight for drama.
This year’s conference is one that seeks to bridge the gap between the constraints of working in a school and the child-centred, humanising pedagogy of the drama teacher.
A contemporary classroom is an endlessly shifting environment, whose foundations are shaken by political storms and reinforced by the unwavering spirit of teachers. The aim of this conference is to encourage drama teachers in the efforts they are already making to bridge the gaps in education: between theory and practice; between agency and policy; between inspired learners and those yet to be inspired.
At times the pressure of an impending exam can feel a world apart from the creative and organic learning processes we really wish to undertake with our learners. We are in danger of making the assessment of learning, rather than learning itself, the focus of our practice in order to ‘get them through the exam’.
This conference is designed to arm educators with the tools they need to navigate their way through changing drama exam specifications in innovative, creative and engaging ways. It is a conference that not only enables you to find a meaningful path through the impending change, but also empowers you to develop and, crucially, protect, your educational ideals
NATD’s 2016 conference is a one-day event, which will incorporate the AGM. Confirmed speakers and workshop leaders for the conference include David Davis, Dr Debra Kidd, Guy Williams and Maggie Hulson.
